Difference between Hypothyroidism and Fatigue: What are the differences between hypothyroidism and chronic fatigue?

One of the symptoms of hypothyroidism is fatigue, and if you have hypothyroidism for a long time, you would most likely have chronic fatigue. The chronic fatigue syndrome is sort of a separate medical entity. There are several ways to tell the difference between the two. Thyroid hypo function has many symptoms such as fatigue, constipation, ears getting dry, blood pressure going down a bit, and cholesterol going up. Also, the thyroid gland may start to swell because it is working harder to meet the needs of the body. The ankle reflex can be tested, like you test the reflex in your knee, and if the reflex comes back slow, that is a sign of hypothyroidism. Read about hypothyroidism symptoms.

In case of chronic fatigue syndrome there is no organic cause that can be found, but if the person has fatigue or chronic fatigue for longer than 6 months, then that is how you could classify that. Usually, for hypothyroidism you can also do a blood test and look at thyroid stimulating hormone which tells the thyroid to produce thyroid hormone. And you can look at thyroid hormones as well and from that get an idea if the thyroid is under functioning, and if it is then you would not have chronic fatigue.
